Ethics

Course Description

This is a full field course on ethics. By that, we mean it covers not only the practical aspects of personal and business ethics, but also the history of it.

"Ethics" covers the actual definition from the dictionary and then expands covering multiple things.

1.           The basic reasons cited for ethical behavior.

2.           The difference between egoism and egotism.

3.           Objectivist ethics and how it applies individually.

4.           The difference between sympathy and empathy and how the two apply.

5.           How different codes of ethics can all be correct (perceptions of ethics).

6.           Mores (what it is and how it applies).

7.           Ethical selling; the need to specifically decide on a personal code of ethics and then purposely implementing it.

8.           Ethical investing; what it is and how it can be applied.

9.           Applying a personal and business code of ethics to companies, utilizing such things as the proxy vote.

10.      Agent due diligence, not only for the good of the consumer but also for the good of the agent.

11.      Understanding how ratings work (A. M. Best plus other companies).

The history is covered so that agents understand how ethical concepts develop. We feel it is necessary for a person to fully understand what this topic contains, as well as what it implies.

While there will be differences of opinion as to what is specifically ethical, when people understand how ethics come about, it is more likely that ethical concepts will be applied.
